In honor of the annual Filipino-American Heritage Month, the Filipino Advisory Committee, Filipino Certificate Studies Group, Bayanihan Club and members of the Filipino community have spearheaded a celebration throughout October on the Big Island.
The event is celebrated each year across the U.S. to honor Filipino Americans — their history, advancement and contributions to the nation.
At the University of Hawaii at Hilo, the celebration kicked off a series of events with a jubilant “Barrio Fiesta” on Oct. 2.
The festivities continue Sunday with the Hilo Filipino Fiesta from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Mooheau Park Bandstand.
The fiesta is sponsored by the County of Hawaii, Downtown Improvement Association and Connections Charter School.
At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Hale Kehau turnaround on campus, UHH and Hawaii Community College students will present “Drizzle — A Showcase of Traditional Dances with a Modern Twist.”
